Donohill Doon come from behind to take the 2011 Tournament Title

Donohill Doon 2 - Murroe AFC 1

A Donohill Doon outfit rolled back the years to claim a joyous 2-1 victory over a Murroe AFC side that were contesting their third Tournament Final in a row after winning the Tournament for the first time in 2009. Murroe were fast out of the traps and hit the front after four minutes of play when a Willie Gammell effort squirmed over the line with hesitancy in the Donohill Doon rearguard a contributory factor. Despite this setback, the Tipperary Limerick combo side grew in stature as the half wore on and a John McGrath effort from out on the left drifted over the crossbar. Jody Shanahan's side continued to press and got back level twelve minutes before the break when John McGrath unleashed a superb effort that left Murroe netmunder Denis O'Connor with no chance. Murroe showed strongly to the half time whistle and Donohill Doon custodian Tom Carr read the situation well two minutes later after heading clear from outside his area. Murroe striker and ultimate golden boot winner Liam Quinn wasn't far away with a good effort on 39 minutes. Denis O'Conner made a good save from a Donohill Doon free kick five minutes in to the second half, the Donohill Doon side were showing the greater hunger at this stage and Gussie O'Dwyer pushed forward on the hour mark to force a good save out of the Murroe keeper at the near post at the expense of a corner kick. The resulting corner kick from Alan Shanahan who turned in an impressive performace throughout saw Raymond Barry bundle the ball to the net in a crowded goalmouth. Denis O'Connor was in the action again midway through the half after saving at the feet of the Donohill's Ger O'Neill. Murroe sprung the changes and Evan Walsh was impressive for Murroe when introduced coming close twelve minutes from the end, however the impetus was with a gallant Doonhill Doon team that defended brilliantly to hold for a narrow but deserverd victory in the end. Murroe will be disappointed with their performance on the night but will bounce back for their domestic campaign, while Jody's Shanahan's men claimed a momentous victory to bridge a seventeen year gap clinching a third Tournament title in the process.
